Checking In With Fedor Fedorov

Fred Fredburger, Fred Fredburger, Yes! Yes! Yes!

Interesting quotes and little tidbits of news follow Fedor Fedorov wherever he goes, it seems-- the latest instance being a story that ran in the Winnipeg Free Press earlier this week. The story, written by Gary Lawless, previews a game between the Manitoba Moose and the Syracuse Crunch from two days ago, with Lawless describing Fedorov as "one of the great villains in Moose franchise history":

It's almost guaranteed the Manitoba Moose and Syracuse Crunch will be opponents in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs, heightening the interest in tonight's matchup.

Throw in the presence of Fedor Fedorov, one of the great villains in Moose franchise history, and this late-season game has lots of intrigue.

Fedorov, you'll remember, was once a top prospect with the Vancouver Canucks but was banished to Winnipeg for inconsistent play. While a member of the Moose, Feddy became famous for late nights, fur coats, a succession of high-end vehicles and a 10-game team suspension for unspecified reasons.

That little incident not only led to then-coach Stan Smyl's great distress but eventually played a major role in his dismissal. None of this would be worth noting if Fedorov was just another run-of-the-mill player, but he's blessed with an all-world skill set and a Hall of Famer-to-be big brother named Sergei.

Sadly, he hasn't been able to figure out the North American pro game, and after 44 games this season with both the Hartford Wolf Pack and now the Crunch, Fedorov has just three goals and 16 assists.

He was a healthy scratch in Syracuse on Saturday night, an announcement greeted with cheers from the hometown fans. But he's still a dangerous player, capable of giving the Moose bigger headaches as an opponent than the doozies he inflicted while in Winnipeg.

The follow-up article which ran yesterday makes no mention of Fedor Fedorov, though Fedorov did play in the game (a 6-4 Syracuse win), posting one shot on goal and a -1, according to the official scoresheet.

When do we get hammer thingies, because I could really make some nice stuff

It has also been rumored* that Fedor Fedorov is the main inspiration behind Fred Fredburger, one of the characters in "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" on Cartoon Network. Fred Fredburger is "a light-green elephant who annoys everybody by asking ridiculous questions, shouting his name and making random comments. He sometimes forgets which house he lives in and just walks into someone else's."

*though not by anyone who would actually know these things

The Manitoba Moose are going down! My loyalties are with the Crunch. Heck they were brave enough to bring the Ferraro brothers in last season, and Fedorov this season.

Who the F are the they going to bring in next season? I mean, what player with the last name beinging with the letter F will they bring in?
