Ak Bars Kazan used a 4-goal third period to defeat Metallurg Magnitogorsk earlier today, 5-1, and even up their Russian Super League championship final at 1 game apiece.
Danis Zaripov had a hat trick for Kazan, including two goals that came six seconds apart in the third period, to raise his league-leading goals total to 40. Alexei Morozov chipped in with two assists, bringing him to within 5 points of reaching the 100 mark on the season.
Both teams' goalies were replaced at the 12:11 mark of the third period, following a fight that started between Metallurg goalie Travis Scott and Ak Bars forward Alexander Stepanov, with Ak Bars goalie Mika Noronen then joining the fight against Scott in defense of his teammate.
Game Three of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Tuesday (April 10th).
UPDATE 4/16/07 - Here's a video of the scuffle between Scott and Noronen, from Russian TV (with sound):
You can see through various replays that Scott takes a whack at Stepanov first, and then Stepanov (#30 in white) comes back at Scott and knocks him down. Noronen then skates all the way down to the Metallurg end to throw punches with Scott. You'll also see both goalies being replaced, and Scott saluting the Magnitogorsk crowd as he skates off to the locker room.
