I'm a fag! I'm a fag! I quit the blog!

Originally posted Aug. 17, 2007

I'm bumping this back up to the top again. I ended up posting a couple of frivolous posts after this one, but then I got sick of looking at them.

For a number of reasons, most of them about as small and pissy as you could imagine, I've decided to pull the sheet over this blog for now. I'm not planning on going away for good; I'll still keep reading all of the other blogs that I like, and it's a pretty good bet that I'll return with a different project (note: new project is now up) a few months down the road.

I'm going to keep this site like it is now indefinitely-- mostly for the sake of the archives and the outgoing links, so that people's Google searches and Technorati ratings don't get screwed up ('cuz Lord knows that's so damn important).

If you came here looking in particular for a story or a photo, like of a Russian player or some stupid band or some shit like that, just enter the search words you're looking for in the box next to the orange "B" up top, and whatever posts contain those words should pop up. Just no more "Sidney Crosby is gay" searches, or I'm gonna start crackin' skulls.

If you're new around here and want to get a look at what all the lack of fuss was about, I've compiled a sample mix of 20 or posts from the last few months of the blog, which you can browse by clicking here.

The March '07 archive is particularly awesome (that's dry humor, bub-- see what you missed?), so you can check that out if you want, also.

UPDATE - Can't Stop The Bleeding and Jerseys and Hockey Love had some nice words regarding my demise, and for that I thank them.

A note of explanation for our Canadian readers: Sometimes in Sick Teen, if Norb used a band photo after one of the guys in the band had quit, he'd draw a word balloon above that guy's head reading "I'm a fag! I'm a fag! I quit the band!" The above is not an original Norb word balloon, but my own slavish imitation.

EDIT 1/29/10 - And now Photobucket made me take it down! Ha ha!

Sorry, sparky. I should say that I honestly appreciate everyone who stopped by here regularly.

Well this stinks. I liked reading your Wolfpack info during the season.

It brought back good memories of road tripping to Rochester in high school to see the Pack win the Calder.

Best of luck.

I clicked on the comments, all set to write "Nooooooooooooooo!" but someone beat me to it.

So instead, fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. What else am I going to read when I'm at work? Gawker? I think not.

8/17/07, 9:08 AM

Blogger Brushback said...

But I thought Gawker had their finger on the pulse of what Young America wants to read. You know, Deadspin and Gridskipper and crap like that.

Hey, Chemmy-- you were at one of the games for the Hartford-Rochester finals in 2000? I didn't go to any of the road games myself (I saw Game Two at home), but I think Mrs. Brushback was there, though that was before we met.

Game Seven of the Providence series the round before that is one of my favorite sports-related memories.

Blogger Chemmy said...

I actually drove out there twice. I was at all six games of the Calder Cup finals in 00.

The memory that stands out most was game 3, we were already winning 3-1, and while cheering some guy ten rows in front of us yelled at us that the Wolfpack sucked. I responded with "Hey buddy don't make me tap the scoreboard" which became a running gag between me and my best friend, and the guy said "Fair enough" and sat down. Fun game.

8/17/07, 9:32 AM

Blogger Brushback said...

One odd fact is that the Wolf Pack lost Game Two in every round that year. I ended up being at every one of those.

What the fuck! now who am going to heckle and badger?
Boy do you know how to ruin a good time what a Sally.
And yes Mrs brushback went to a game during the finals it was game three the same as chemmy i was also there as was my friend timebomb.

It was truly bizarre seeing a Hartford sports team win something.

Boooo! Where else will I get fantastic Wolf Pack insight, the latest Russian hockey gossip, photos of some of the most horrendous hockey jerseys out there, and be introduced to some truly unlistenable music? Seriously, I wish you the best in whatever comes next, but I really do hope this is a decision you ultimately reconsider. This site has been in my top 5 blogs to visit ever since I found it a couple years ago, and I'll really miss it.

I knew when I decided to do this that I'd feel crappy about the Wolf Pack fans I'd be leaving hanging, but the pace of trying to stay on top of everything was sometimes more than I wanted to deal with.

I'm kinda hoping that someone else will start a Wolf Pack blog. I think there's a couple of candidates for the job out there.

DUDE!!! WTF?!?!?

Man, I am really bummed about this...I seriously hope you will reconsider once the Pack season starts. Otherwise I will be forced to heckle you at every game I see you at!

Seriously, I can understand you might need some time take the rest of Aug and Sept off and make sure to report back here once the AHL season starts again.

This is the only blog I visit every day...sometimes twice a day!

Have a good rest of the summer and I'll see you in October.

Actually, one of the things I hope to do is relax at the games more without having to be constantly thinking of an angle or a headline for a post the next morning.

Don't forget what's sorta become the "lost post", since it got buried under the shutdown announcement before hardly anyone saw it:

Fedor Fedorov not Russian enough for some people

I think it's sorta fitting that the last official post was a Fedor Fedorov one.

I have to agree with the crowd here. The Hockey Blogging universe will be a little bit duller with you gone. The Wolfpack may get another blogger in time, but not one so good.

Are you planning on starting another project?

It seems to me that if you are going to "fag" out then the most appropriate exit should not happen until you have posted the first picture of Lundmark in his Dynamo jersey

8/23/07, 12:44 PM

Blogger Brushback said...

But I did post the first-ever photo of Fedor Fedorov this season in a Dynamo jersey-- isn't that enough?

To make things right, I offer this wonderful photo instead:

Alexander Ovechkin and Fedor Fedorov together at Dynamo training camp

Two legends, side-by-side.

Oh, and there's some of Ovechkin and Sergei Fedorov, too, but they're nowhere near as good as this one.

The person above left a really hilarious comment that was just too long, so I had to delete it.

Here are some of the best parts:

"The Simpsons offered many clues to the disfavored, not the least of which ARE the frequent references to "pack/mob mentality". Another is the references to the iPod as death and the electric chair. Yet another is the statement on fashion::They all wear the same clothing every episode."

"You are fucked. Start accepting it."

"Too many of you are proud of the perpetual nature of your music genre. The reality is country'western IS perpetual because the gods hate your guts and want you consumed by this music."

"San Francisco isn't just evil. San Francisco is the SOURCE of evil."

"All this muerte death shit in fucking chicano culture, dude.
